AB#348 Turner Desert is a mixed media artwork created on raw canvas, measuring 150 × 70 × 2 cm (2026). Inspired by the atmospheric smoke and dissolving light found in J.M.W. Turner’s paintings, the work unfolds through horizontal striations of beige, sand, black, and white, evoking vast desert landscapes silent, suspended, and infinite.
Rather than depicting a physical place, the work reflects the idea that everything originates from color. The desert emerges as a chromatic consistency, shaped by layered tonalities and subtle transitions that suggest heat, dust, distance, and light. What may appear empty or still is, in fact, rich with visual tension and latent movement.
The artwork is painted on recycled raw canvas made from coffee sacks, handcrafted by artisan Carlo Mottola of Aversa. This material choice reinforces the dialogue between matter and perception, grounding the ethereal landscape in a tangible, lived surface.
