AB#354 Puzzle is a painting on canvas depicting an intricate and discontinuous world, constructed through a material surface marked by gestures, incisions, and layers of colour.
The surface is worked using a thick thread, creating traces, interruptions, and physical tensions within the painting. In some areas, the pictorial gesture becomes more incisive, removing layers of colour and revealing the underlying material. The surface is therefore transformed into a fragmented network of marks, textures, and discontinuities.
The landscape appears deliberately difficult to reconstruct: a fragmented and disturbed reality influenced by almost aerial emotions, in which each element seems to lose its stability. Everything vibrates, overlaps, and progressively breaks apart, as if being drawn into a vortex.
The beauty of the colours emerges precisely through this state of disorder. The tones do not create an immediately recognizable image, but reveal themselves through the repetition of vertical marks and the continuous variation of the material surface. Puzzle becomes an exploration of the difficulty of reconstructing what we perceive: an accumulation of fragments that, although apparently disconnected, continue to belong to the same reality.
The artwork is painted on recycled raw canvas made from coffee sacks, handcrafted by artisan Carlo Mottola of Aversa. This material choice reinforces the dialogue between matter and perception, grounding the ethereal landscape in a tangible, lived surface.
