AB#357 III Red Eclypse

Red Eclipse develops the theme of the eclipse through an inversion of its traditional meaning. Against a light background, shifting between soft pink and amber tones, five black circles are arranged along a vertical axis, creating a sequence of suspended presences within the space of the canvas.

In the upper part of the composition, a large white circle overlaps two of the black circles. Around these forms, dense red clouds move through the painted space, introducing an atmospheric dimension and creating a strong contrast between the luminous background and the intensity of red and black.

The work originates from the idea of reversing the concept of an eclipse itself. Instead of representing a dark body obscuring a source of light, here a white sun becomes the protagonist. Its presence does not create darkness, but appears to illuminate and transform the two black worlds it encounters.

The white circle can be imagined as an alabaster world with its own inner lighta presence capable of entering darkness without completely eliminating it. The light does not erase the black, but temporarily covers it, interrupts it, and changes the relationship between the forms.

From this inversion comes a reflection on the cycles of life. Difficult periods do not always end through a definitive resolution. Sometimes they are interrupted by a new element, an unexpected presence, or a change that enters our path and creates a moment of discontinuity.

In Red Eclipse, what is positive does not necessarily destroy what is dark. Instead, it can temporarily obscure it, transforming its perception and interrupting its cycle. The work becomes a suspended dialogue between white and black forces, between what remains and what is temporarily hidden, between the continuity of events and the unexpected possibility of change.

The artwork is painted on recycled raw canvas made from coffee sacks, handcrafted by artisan Carlo Mottola of Aversa. This material choice reinforces the dialogue between matter and perception, grounding the ethereal landscape in a tangible, lived surface.
