AB#359 26 Agosto is a large-scale abstract composition made of twelve individual canvases assembled into a single work, inspired by the sunset over the Tyrrhenian Sea seen from Marina di Castagneto Carducci on August 26, 2026.

The work was born from a period of prolonged observation. After spending many days watching the sunset from the same place, the artist chose to respond not to a single image, but to the memory of a recurring phenomenon: the gradual transformation of the horizon, the changing intensity of light, and the quiet atmosphere that emerges as the day comes to an end.

Each of the twelve canvases can exist as an individual painting, yet when assembled they form a larger abstract landscape. Strips of colour cross the boundaries between the canvases, connecting them visually and allowing the individual works to become fragments of a single image. The composition therefore exists simultaneously as a collection of separate paintings and as one unified artwork.

The surface is built from a base of stucco and alabaster, subsequently painted with colours drawn from the horizon at sunset. The mineral quality of the material creates a physical, almost geological surface, transforming an ephemeral atmospheric event into something tangible. Light, colour and memory become embedded in the material of the work.

The modular structure is also central to the concept. Like an oversized puzzle, the twelve canvases can be assembled as a single uninterrupted composition, suggesting that a complete memory is rarely experienced as one continuous image. Instead, it is constructed from fragments, repetitions and individual moments that gradually come together.

The choice of August 26 is deeply personal. The sunset observed on that evening was perceived by the artist as something unique, yet its significance extends beyond the event itself. Marina di Castagneto Carducci is a place visited for many years, associated with family, familiarity and a sense of belonging. The work therefore becomes less a representation of a sunset than a meditation on the feeling it generated: peace, serenity and the quiet continuity of shared time.

Repetition becomes the final conceptual element. Twelve canvases repeat and extend the same underlying idea, transforming a fleeting moment into something potentially endless. What happens once in nature is repeated through painting, again and again, as if the moment could be preserved through its multiplication.

AB#359 26 Agosto is therefore both a landscape and an act of remembrance: twelve separate paintings forming one horizon, a single sunset transformed into a lasting constellation of fragments, and a fleeting moment of peace given a physical form that can be reconstructed again and again.

The artwork is painted on recycled raw canvas made from coffee sacks, handcrafted by artisan Carlo Mottola of Aversa. This material choice reinforces the dialogue between matter and perception, grounding the ethereal landscape in a tangible, lived surface.
