AB#361 September Sunset is a large-scale triptych composed of three canvases of different dimensions. Together, the three paintings describe the movement of the sun as it gradually descends beyond a maritime horizon, unfolding the sunset through three consecutive moments.
Painted on raw canvas, the work combines whites, blues, and intense reds with dense, expressive layers of colour. The composition translates a state of emotional ambiguity into a changing landscape, where the vivid red of the sun becomes the final point of intensity before disappearing beyond the horizon.
Across the three canvases, the sunset becomes a brief transition rather than an ending. The disappearance of the sun marks the conclusion of one day while simultaneously anticipating the beginning of another, suggesting the continuous and indeterminate succession of days governed by the movement of the sun.
Large material strokes extend across the surfaces like traces of time itself. Their physical presence transforms the passage of the sun into a visible and tactile process, recording duration through colour, gesture, and accumulated matter.
September Sunset reflects on the cyclical nature of time: every sunset is both a disappearance and a promise of return, while each day becomes part of an endless sequence whose movement is measured by the same light that continually leaves and returns.
The artwork is painted on recycled raw canvas made from coffee sacks, handcrafted by artisan Carlo Mottola of Aversa. This material choice reinforces the dialogue between matter and perception, grounding the ethereal landscape in a tangible, lived surface.
